Marquet Fair Trade

marquet_logoCompany / Owner Bio

I travelled through Southeast Asia almost a decade ago and realized that I wanted to start a business that would allow me to help so many of the artisans that I had met in my travels, that would also allow me to interact with them on a daily basis and kept me in on-going contact with them. It adds value to my product because there is a face behind each scarf woven–every product purchased gives back to those same artisans I have been working with since the beginning.

How does your company reflect its ethics?

Marquet is dedicated to importing handmade accessories, gifts, and decor from Thailand and Vietnam. We travel around the world to meet craftsmen and find new and exciting products. Our goal is to empower artisans and entrepreneurs in developing countries by expanding their potential to reach a larger audience.

What do you hope to share and/or learn at CSIL’s Holiday Pop Up Market?

We hope to raise awareness to the Fair Trade movement and let more people know that there are MIIS students working with Fair Trade businesses currently to promote positive change through trade, not aid. Celina Lima is a sales manager for my company and will be selling the scarves at the table and sharing more about our values and impact with students at the bazaar.
