Hiking on the Central Coast
Andrew Molera is stunning! It’s a state park located on the central California coast just south of Big Sur and about an hour north of Monterey. To all of our pleasure, the views (and company) did not disappoint!
We loaded onto a packed bus in the morning, and I was pleased to see that many of the students quickly became engaged in conversations with the strangers sitting or standing next to them on the bus. As we hopped off the bus an hour later, we lathered on sunscreen and were ready for a hiking adventure.
“Adventure” might be putting it mildly. 9 miles and 3 and a half hours later we stumbled across snakes and lizards, trekked up steep hills, complained, laughed, cried, had great conversations, and stared in awe at the amazing blues and greens in the ocean and sky.
The truth is, our legs hurt, we were exhausted, and we almost missed the bus back home, but as we sat quietly (or passed out!) in our seats on the way back to Monterey we felt proud of the physical work and energy that we put in and were happy for having been able to share the experience with each other.
