Model UN Volunteers Needed!

Calling all Model UN enthusiasts! The Lyceum of Monterey County is looking for volunteers to help out with the annual Middle School Model UN Conference in Monterey County. In Model UN, students are assigned countries to represent and come to the conference as delegates from those countries. The MIIS volunteers will participate by chairing one of the UN committees in which students debate various current international topics. The conference will take place on Saturday, April 21, on the MIIS campus. Prior experience with Model UN is a plus, but not necessary. We are especially looking for volunteers with some knowledge or experience with the following topics:

  • UN Involvement in Election Monitoring
  • The Role of Natural Resources and the Environment in Conflict and Peacebuilding
  • The Situation in Syria
  • Separatist State Movements
  • Children in the Workforce
  • Rights of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)

There will be at least two training sessions in the coming weeks to fully prepare the volunteers for their roles in the conference. For more information on the conference, please visit our website at http://www.lyceum.org/home/model-un. If you are interested in volunteering, please e-mail Becky Bierman, Model UN Coordinator, at becky@lyceum.org.
