The International Peace and Development Training Centre of the The Peace Action Training and Research Institute in Romania is offering leadership and and certificate programs for 2013 in London, UK and Romania.

Inclusive Security supports policymakers by providing expert advice grounded in research that demonstrates women’s contributions to peacebuilding. We strengthen women leaders through targeted training and mentoring, helping them to build coalitions, and connecting them to policymakers. Unrest Magazine seeks contributions for upcoming issue – focus on Syria, Egypt, US Policy

submit v sign2_0Unrest Magazine is looking for people who are interested in submitting contributions (short articles) for its Issue 8 on Syria, Turkey and Egypt. Additionally, the online web portal welcomes responses examining the ongoing issues related to the 2008 economic crisis and the West’s policy (or lack of policy) toward engaging global violence. Unrest Magazine is dedicated to publishing and covering a range of topics, such as: the role of systemic violence in perpetuating conflict, inequality and poverty, post-conflict peace building, development, foreign policy, social movements, peace/conflict education, and human rights. The magazine works with a variety of interested people: scholars, students, activists, practitioners and all those interested in engaging in critical discussion about the problems facing the world today and what might be done to address them. Guidelines and Terms of Conditions can be found here. Drafts should be sent to submissions@unrestmag.com by October 15, 2013.  Submitted articles should be no more than 3000 words in length and include proper citations for texts, charts, and figures cited in the piece.  Accepted submissions will be published online in our November issue.  All submissions will be considered by the review board, but the editors will give priority to publishing those pieces that deal with current issues and/or best fit the vision of the magazine.

Various Internship Opportunities With Darfur Women Action Group, Washington D.C.

indexCurrently, the Darfur Women Action Group (DWAG) is offering various unpaid internships in their office invWashington, D.C.: Development intern/volunteer, Social Media and Multi-media intern, Outreach and government relations, and Communications Intern.

Candidates will help to advance the outreach and promotion of the organization. With the expulsion of UNHCR workers from Sudan, the group’s work will help raise awareness of the problems and hardship of women in this troubled region.

The U.S.-based organization is led by Darfuri women who help survivors and victims both in Sudan and the U.S.

We are ecstatic to announce that applications for IPSI’s 2012 Symposiums are now open! Here is information on the two, month-long Symposiums offered by IPSI this summer:
 
The 2012 Bologna, Italy Symposium on Conflict Prevention, Resolution, & Reconciliation will be held from June 16 – July 14 at the Johns Hopkins SAIS Bologna Center. 
The inaugural 2012 The Hague Symposium on Post-Conflict Transitions & International Justice will be held from July 21 – August 18 at the Clingendael Institute of International Relations and in cooperation with Leiden University’s Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies.
 
IPSI is accepting reduced-price Early Decision applications until February 13th. Regular Decision applications close on April 23rd for the Bologna Symposium and on May 14th for the Hague Symposium.

We are now accepting applicants for Team El Salvador 6!  Our online application is up and running.  We are looking forward to hearing from you!

Application Process:

  • Complete the online application and submit all materials (listed on online application) by October 1st.
  • Applicants will be notified via email if they have been selected for an in-person interview.  A portion of the interview will be conducted in Spanish.
  • Applicants will be notified if they have been accepted into the program.

Team El Salvador is a three-week practicum that provides professional, international opportunities for MIIS students to enhance development expertise, language skills, and multicultural competency through a partnership with La Coordinadora, a community-based organization in the Bajo Lempa region of El Salvador.

Through ongoing projects, we offer invaluable practical experience for burgeoning development professionals and linguists, while benefiting Salvadoran communities.

MIIS MPA Alumnus Jonah Leff to Speak About Life as a UN Weapons Inspector on Wednesday, 9/14

This Wednesday, MIIS MPA ’06 alumnus Jonah Leff will speak about his experiences as a monitor for the UN arms embargoes in Darfur and Mogadishu.  Mr. Leff has a wide range of experiences in tracking arms and ammunition, armed groups and the full range of activities related to armed conflict.  He will address the question, “Do UN Security Council sanctions work?”

UNDP Bureau of Crisis Prevention and Recovery (BCPR) is Accepting Applications for Internships in DDR positions

The UNDP Bureau of Crisis Prevention and Recovery (BCPR) has openings for interns in several Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration positons.

In New York, it is the office of Coordinator UN Inter Agency Working Group on DDR at United Nations. The Coordinator, Mr. Cornelius Steenken, will also entertain resumes and cover letters from MIIS students for field positions in Somalia (based in Kenya), South Sudan, and Cote D’Ivoire.
