Boris Chumak

IPSS Assignment: National Foreign Trade Council – Washington D.C. 

Born to an engineer by the name of Angela and an entrepreneur named of Kostya, Boris Chumak was born in the industrial town of Kremenchug Ukraine. Constituting nearly 7 percent of Ukraine’s total output and accounting for 50% of the Industrial output of Poltava’s region, Kremenchug is truly Ukraine’s productive gateway into Europe. From an early age, Boris enjoyed spending countless hours reading history while working on cars in his grandfather’s garage. At the age of 9 he moved to San Jose, CA. Located at the heart of the Silicon Valley and creating U.S. jobs through trade, San Jose was an excellent transition from Kremenchug allowing Boris to once again appreciate economic productivity while surrounding with a diverse group of friends. Ultimately, his background led Boris to enroll in UCLA’s international relations and Russian studies faculty. Upon the completion of his undergraduate degree, Boris worked in finances generating revenue and acquiring a passion for sales.  Following his quest for productivity, Boris continued his studies at the Monterey Institute majoring in International Trade. Additionally he reinforced his sales background founding a negotiation/mediation club at his school that attracted dozens of members and a major Bay Area venture capitalist.

For the past six months, Boris worked for the National Foreign Trade Council (NFTC) in Washington DC. Simultaneously, Boris worked alongside his teammates Azam and Noah on researching the impact of U.S. policy on renewable energy markets and climate change. Boris focused his efforts on researching the impact free trade agreements have on environment standards and renewable energy trade. In addition to his research, Boris worked as a junior lobbyist for the NFTC attending congressional hearings, trade association events and embassy dinners advocating for the removal of trade barriers and the conclusion of the pending free trade agreements with Colombia, Panama and Korea. He would personally like to thank the President of the NFTC William Reinsch and VP William Kelly for their efforts to bring Boris up to speed regarding the current state of U.S. trade policy.

Boris plans on expanding his international trade career and is looking for well paying private and public sector opportunities.
