After 4 months in an internship for a social investment start-up company, Ms. Sanborn has become intimately acquainted with the perils and opportunities of East Africa’s Investment Climate. Rife with widespread corruption, abysmal employee performance and an infrastructure with less roads for 8 million people than Monterey has bus routes, Tanzania is considered a prime spot for social investment. The new capitalist climate is making a great buzz. Is the hype near reality? This presentation will explore the route to finding gems of social investment opportunity in this complicated landscape of a rapidly growing middle-class, poverty on a resource rich land of opportunity.
