J-Term Practicum: Team El Salvador 2010, 2011- Bajo Lempa, Usulutan, El Salvador

Melissa Summers is originally from Eugene, Oregon, where she earned bachelor degrees in English Literature and Sociology. After graduating, she spent two years teaching English in Japan before coming to the Monterey Institute of International Studies in 2009. She has since earned a Masters in International Development Policy and is currently pursuing an MBA. During her time at the Institute, Melissa has been involved in an immersion practicum that conducts community development work in rural El Salvador, known as Team El Salvador (formerly Team Monterey). In her first year she participated as a team member, and in her second year, Melissa served as a team leader, helping to organize the practicum, recruit and prepare the team, and lead the Production project on the ground. In her final year at the Institute, Melissa will be focusing her energy on learning about Social Businesses and Sustainability.
