WWII in China: A CBI Model for the Chinese Classroom

Levi Stribling, Master’s Candidate, Teaching a Foreign Language

Monterey Institute of International Studies

This presentation will demonstrate how an introductory lesson on WWII in China can both intrigue and educate the middle-school learner of Mandarin Chinese. The aim of the presentation is to review what CBI (Course-based Instruction) is and to show how this recently-taught topic for an 8th-Grade class can be used at all levels to educate and lead thoughtful discussions.
