Bill Potter Award Chile

CNS Director Awarded Government of Chile’s Highest Honor

On January 8, the Chilean government awarded Dr. William Potter, director of the Middlebury Institute’s James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS), the Order of Bernardo O’Higgins in recognition of his work in the field of disarmament and nonproliferation education. The award, authorized by the president of Chile, is the highest honor conferred on non-Chileans and is of the rank of Grand Officer.  The ceremony was conducted at the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs in conjunction with an international conference on “Roads to Nuclear Disarmament.” Continue Reading →

According to student Sarah Norris (MANPTS ’14), if you want to learn about Russian policy and perspectives in the context of language learning, there is no better place for you than the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, thanks to its Graduate Initiative in Russian Studies (GIRS). On April 13, 1944, a precocious 15-year-old boy from Atlanta, Georgia, sat happily on a back seat reserved for blacks in the “colored” section of the bus. It was a joyful day so far for him.
