Sessions will take place every Wednesday from 12:30 – 1pm in room CF 452. These drop-in sessions do not include any meditation instruction or teaching; they simply provide a regular time and peaceful place to meditate, or just sit in silence, under the quiet guidance of a host. International Affairs & Cyber

Dr. Itamara Lochard, Director of the Monterey Institute Cyber Security Initiative (MCySec), will present on the many ways that cyberspace impacts international affairs on Tuesday, Sept. 2 from 12:00-2:00pm in McGowan MG102. Come learn about the hottest growing field in international affairs that impacts everything from peace to war to humanitarian ops to language to business... The Andean Alliance for Sustainable Development (AASD) is a MIIS alumni founded non-profit organization that collaborates with indigenous communities in Peru on development projects, with an emphasis on sustainable agriculture. Publishing Opportunity for Policy Students

“The Nicomachean”, the online blog of the Students for Ethical Governance and Policymaking (SEGP), is seeking articles for publication. The SEGP is a student club at MIIS that seeks to involve ethical considerations in modern policymaking. We invite Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree, and PhD students and recent graduates who have studied issues of political science, philosophy, history, international relations, development, economics, business, international security, gender relations, and ecology or related disciplines to submit articles to this new online journal. Learn More

The Center for Conflict Studies will be hosting the conference Conflicts Over Water and Building Bridges with Water November 6-8, and are currently accepting proposals. This conference aims to highlight the complexities of water conflicts and share approaches made by conflict resolvers, communities, institutions and governments in resolving these conflicts. Alumnus Peter Evans: Applying Lessons from MIIS in High-Stakes Policy Debates

When the Assad regime in Syria used chemical weapons against its citizens in the city of Ghouta in August of 2013, Peter Evans (MAIPS ’97) represented the Near East Affairs Bureau of the U.S. State Department’s nonproliferation policy office in the policy discussion of the response. “I applied all that I had learned at MIIS and during my internship at the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague, and it positioned me to be on top of the topic from the start.” Continue Reading →

Recommendation from MIIS Alumnus Leads to Transformative Internship

For Michael Lui (MAIPS ’15), his summer internship working for the nonprofit organization Global Compassion in Cameroon was a transformative experience that he hopes to continue to build upon as he completes his degree in International Policy Studies, with a certificate in Conflict Resolution. For two and a half months Michael worked in the rural municipality of Santchou working on a grant proposal to implement a water project. His work involved researching existing wells and water taps, meeting with stakeholders, consulting with water experts and lots of writing. Continue Reading →
