Sean Curran
English: I am originally from Manhattan Beach, Ca. I graduated from the Monterey Institute in 2012 with an M.A. in IPS, with a focus on trade, and Spanish as my language. Previously I received my B.A. in English and Spanish Literature at UCSD. I studied and worked in the Basque region of Spain for 6 years. I also lived in Isabela, Puerto Rico for a year. I have worked as a teacher, tutor, translator, and interpreter of both Spanish and English here and abroad. Most recently I have worked at MIIS as an Adjunct Spanish Instructor. I love travelling, languages, writing, poetry, hiking, and big wave surfing.
Spanish: Soy originalmente de Manhattan Beach, Ca. Hice mi pregrado en la literatura inglesa e hispana, en UCSD. Tras graduarme, fui a San Sebastián donde vivía durante casi 6 años. Ahí estudiaba euskara y lingüística en la Universidad del País Vasco. Mientras vivía en España trabajaba de profesor del inglés y de la literatura española. He vivido y trabajado en Puerto Rico y Chile también. En California tanto como en el extranjero he trabajado como profesor, tutor, traductor, e intérprete. Vine a MIIS en 2010 para estudiar la política internacional con un enfoque en comercio. Tras graduarme en 2012, he estado enseñando como profesor adjunto de español en MIIS. Mis intereses son las lenguas, la lingüística, el escribir, la geopolítica, la naturaleza, y hacer surf.
Michelle Swenson Carrega
English: For the past two years, Michelle has been working towards her dual master’s degree in Public Administration and International Education Management. Her concentration is in women and entrepreneurship in Latin America. Michelle received her bachelor’s degree in International Studies and Spanish. After she graduated form the University of Washington, she moved to Argentina for four years teaching English and project managing at web development firms. Michelle has a love for the Spanish language and latin culture. You can find her at a park drinking her maté and reading Jorge Luis Borges on the weekends.
Español: Durante los últimos dos años, Michelle ha estado trabajando en su doble maestría en Administración Pública y Gestión de la Educación Internacional. Su concentración es en las mujeres y el espíritu empresarial en Latino América. Michelle recibió su licenciatura en estudios internacionales y en español. Después de que se graduó de la Universidad de Washington, se trasladó a Argentina durante cuatro años enseñando Inglés y manejando proyectos de desarrollo web para empresas. Michelle tiene un gran interés en el idioma español y la cultura latina. Michelle disfruta tomar un mate, hacer empanadas argentinas y bailar salsa.
