Be the Solution

What is TEDx?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxMonterey, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxMonterey event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

What is TEDxMonterey?

TEDxMonterey will draw speakers and participants from the culturally rich community in Monterey including the Monterey Institute of International Studies and surrounding community.  The event on April 16th, 2010 will take place in the Irvine Auditorium at the Monterey Institute and will also be live streamed for anyone to see.  More information on the live stream will be available closer to the event.  The spirit of TED is strong in Monterey as the former home of the conference and we are delighted to be bringing TEDx to Monterey.

The theme of TEDxMonterey is “Be the Solution”.  There are a variety of challenges that faces our global and local community that need innovative solutions and creative thinking.  Speakers will address issues such as the environment, nuclear non-proliferation, poverty and migration with a look towards the possibility that is held in the future.  This diverse range of talks will showcase important thinkers as well as the arts, wonder and under represented voices in our community.  The goal of the event is to inspire and start a conversation based on shared passions and possibility.
