In this issue, we present a TV series you may want to enjoy over the summer. If you have any books, movies, shows, etc. that you would like to recommend, feel free to let us know!
Netflix Show: Special by Ryan O’Connell. Recommended by Jacob Dwyer. Filmed in a semi-auto-biographical way, Netflix’s Special highlights the adventures of the writer and producer Ryan O’Connell, a gay man living with cerebral palsy. From working as a Buzzfeed-esque writer to losing his virginity, each 15-minute vignette provides an insight into the intersection between ability and sexuality with a refreshing perspective. Also, it’s a prime example of correct representation in media, where O’Connell plays the main character acting out stories based upon his memoir, I’m Special: And Other Lies We Tell Ourselves. Given the shortness of each episode, check this new show out for a quick study break or even a quick binge.
