Microsoft Custom Translator – A DnD Campaign

Most people have had some sort of experience with machine translation, most likely through the use of Google Translate, which, over the years, has gone from comical to scarily accurate, thanks to its developments in its new Neural framework. How does it work? Essentially, the way a neural framework learns is by scanning millions of human translations and develops its own understanding through pattern recognition.

Well, if the majority of those millions of translations were all on the same subject matter, say physics, then the machine would probably be really good at translating documents relating to physics. That’s where customizing a machine translation engine comes in.

Our team of RPG nerds decided to attempt to train an engine to be really good at translating campaigns from the Dungeons and Dragons series developed by Wizards of the Coast. To learn more about our experience, take a look at our video and pilot project file:

It was quite a journey, and we hope to continue development in the future. Until then, it’s been a pleasure Microsoft Custom Translator!
