Andrea Hofmann-Miller

Courses: Written Translation, Sight Translation, Consecutive Interpretation, Simultaneous Interpretation into German

Professor Hofmann-Miller has been working as a freelance translator and interpreter since 1991 and has been teaching at the Monterey Institute since 1994. Her fields of specialization include business, law, medicine, psychology, sports, and computer software and hardware. She was a member of the German team of interpreters for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta and the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City and has interpreted for members of various German ministries. She is a member of the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC) and the Northern California Translators Association (NCTA), and is a seminar and conference interpreter for the United States Department of State.

Jacolyn Harmer

Professor

Courses: Consecutive Interpretation, Simultaneous Interpretation into English

Jacolyn Harmer has been a practicing freelance conference interpreter and translator for over 30 years; her clients include both the major international organizations and the private market. She is a member of the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC) and served for several years on the AIIC Training Committee. Since 1985 she has taught in the French and German Programs at the Monterey Institute of International Studies Graduate School of Translation, Interpretation and Language Education. In addition to translator and interpreter education, she has co-taught Training of Interpreter Trainer programs in the US, Asia and Europe. Her translation of Pédagogie Raisonnée de l’Interprétation (Seleskovitch and Lederer) was published in 1996.
