2012 Scholarship Challenge

Our experience at MIIS has been a unique one! We have polished our aptitude for cultivating change in the world, and developed friendships that will last a lifetime. Now we are lucky to have the chance to help future students experience this as well through the 2012 Scholarship Challenge.

The Challenge was set forth by Alumnus and Board Member, Andrea Gabrielle (MBA ’88). For every $20 gifted by a student, Gabrielle will match it with $100, up to $5,000! Special thanks to Bowen Teuscher (NPTS ’12), who was the first of this graduating class to give.

Announcements available on Monday (11/5)

Paper commencement announcements will be available for pick up at Student Services beginning on Monday, November 5th. Each grad will receive 7 announcements. Please be sure to get yours on Monday! All announcements must be picked up by November 16th. After that date, your announcements will be released to other graduates, so if you need additional announcements, you may pick them up beginning November 19th.

Free Cap and Gown Raffle

Free raffle for caps and gowns held at the Graduating Student Information Meeting on 10/18 in Irvine! We’ll be raffling off #5 used caps, gowns, and hood donated by last year’s graduates. There are #4 MA sets and #1 MBA set. These sets do not come with tassels and you must purchase from the gown order website for $4.95 if you would like a tassel. Limited to sizes on hand. Must be present to win or have a person represent you in your stead. Drawing will be held at the conclusion of the commencement information meeting.  Tickets will be given out at the door on Thursday.

Student Speaker Nomination Process and Deadlines

The Office of Student Services is now accepting student commencement speaker nominations from members of the graduating class of December 2012.  You must be a December 2012 graduating student to participate and you may nominate a classmate or yourself.  When making your nomination decision, please consider a person that would best represent the entire student body of the Institute rather than a particular graduate school or degree program.  Please refer to the schedule of important deadlines below.

Speaker Process and Deadlines

Commencement speaker nominations are due by Monday, October 15th by 4pm.   Please click on the following link to enter your nomination.  All nominations must be submitted online through this Google document.

All nominees who accept their nomination will present a 3-5 minute summary of their commencement speech to fellow graduates at the Graduating Students Meeting on Thursday, October 18th at 12:15pm in the Irvine Auditorium. The Graduating Students Meeting is very important because we will cover important information about commencement day logistics, graduation announcements, required paperwork needed for clearance, diplomas and more!  The meeting begins at 12:15pm and will conclude at 1:30pm.  The speakers will present at some point during the meeting (times to be determined).

Commencement speaker elections will take place online from Thursday, October 18th at 3pm through Wednesday October 24th by 4:30pm. The winner will be announced via email.

Speaker will rehearse their speech with Ashley Arrocha to get timing and pacing perfected.  The winner of this process will have ten minutes to present at the commencement ceremony.

MIIS Winter Commencement 2012

Winter Commencement will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the Golden State Theatre located at 417 Alvarado Street, Monterey, California. The ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m. Seating begins at noon and we ask that guests be seated by 12:45 p.m. Tickets are not required to attend and you can have an unlimited number of guests attend.

A champagne and hors d’oeuvres reception will follow at the Samson Student Center on campus following the ceremony from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
