Professor Tsuneo Akaha (GSIPM) presented a paper “Human Security and Regional Integration in East Asia,” at the 6th International Conference on East Asian Studies, held at Far Eastern National University in Vladivostok, Russia on September 9-10, 2010.  The conference was attended by academic researchers from Russia, China, Japan, South Korea, and the United States.  He was particularly delighted to learn that many faculty members at the Russian university were aware of the excellent programs MIIS offers in Translation and Interpretation and International Policy Studies.

Professor Akaha’s paper “Embracing Global Norms through Regional Cooperation in Human Trafficking, Labor Migration, and HIV/AIDS” was published recently in Shaping New Regional Governance in East Asia: A Common Vision for Mutual Benefit and Common Prosperity by ORUEM Publishing House, South Korea.  He had presented the paper at the 5th Jeju Peace Forum in Jeju Island, South Korea in the summer of 2009, where UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon was the keynote speaker.
