Student Design Contest for CSUMB Bike Garage
California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) is kicking off a bicycle storage garage design contest on Monday, April 11 at 6:00pm. The project is made possible through a grant funding award from the Monterey Bay Unified Air Pollution Control District, allowing CSUMB to construct an indoor, weather-proof secured bicycle storage garage intended to support bicycle commuters and reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions from vehicle traffic. The kickoff meeting begins at 6:00pm in the CSUMB Student Center, Room 113, followed by a visit to the proposed project site located East of the Institutional Assessment & Research building, formerly known as building 6.
This contest is open to students of CSUMB, Monterey Peninsula College (MPC), and Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS). The winning entry will receive a $350 award, and 2nd place will receive $50. Submittals will be judged on feasibility, creativity, sustainability, place-making, flow and efficiency of interior space, and effective use of exterior space.
The deadline for contest submittals is 12:00 pm, May 31 2011. The site visit is not required for contest entry. Please submit contest entries to Megan Tolbert at CSUMB, Mountain Hall Suite A, or to Thomas Rettenwender at Monterey Peninsula College.
