MIIS Ranks Fourth in Nation for Peace Corps Master’s International Participation
The Peace Corps announced the top five graduate schools in the nation in terms of participation in the Peace Corps Master’s International program and the Monterey Institute of International Studies came in at number four, with 20 students enrolled in the program and serving overseas as of the ranking date of September 30, 2010.
MIIS Community Raises Over $7,000 for Japan Relief, Adds Miner Foundation Support
To date the fundraising efforts of Monterey Institute student, staff, and faculty volunteers for earthquake and tsunami relief in Japan have raised approximately $7,200, with additional activities set for this week and next week. Moreover, the volunteers have found a partner in the Miner Foundation, which has pledged to match dollar for dollar all donations raised by the MIIS community going forward.

- Paper presentation with Gaukhar Mukhtazhanova on “In Search of Proliferation Trends and Tendencies: No Waves on the Horizon” at the International Studies association Conference in Montreal (March 16-19, 2011) and Middlebury college (March 21)
- Moderator of a panel on “Nuclear Developments in South Asia” at a meeting of the International Network of Emerging Nuclear Specialists” in Washington DC, on March 26-27, 2011
Ruehsen speaks at International Money Laundering Conference
Professor Moyara Ruehsen chaired a panel on “Mitigating the threats from International Organized Crime” at the 16th Annual International Anti-Money Laundering Conference in Florida.
Akaha Article Published in French Journal
An article by Professor Tsuneo Akaha has been published in French as “Japon: le difficile équilibre entre soft power et hard power” (Japan: the difficult balance between soft power and hard power), Politique étrangère, Vol. 76, No. 1 (March 2011), pp. 115-127. The journal is published by Institut Francais des Relations Internationales in Paris, France.
