Frontier Market Scout Partner Organization Highlighted in Local News!

A recent article entitled Bring on the Bees  in the Hindustan Times highlights the partner organization of former Frontier Market Scout, Ravi Kurani.  Ravi served as interim COO at Under The Mango Tree while on his 6 month FMS field assignment in India during the Spring of 2011.  His hard work, along with many others, has produced a successful, socially conscious endeavor linking rural farmers with beekeeping training and equipment.  Under The Mango Tree (UTMT) is a social enterprise providing long-term market linkages between rural producers and urban consumers searching for pure, fairly-traded, organic certified agriculture and forest produce.  A particularly interesting project of UTMT promotes community-based beekeeping or “bees for poverty reduction” as a solution to India’s natural resource problems.  Along with the problem of declining agricultural productivity, bee populations globally are under threat and their role in agriculture is critical.  The UTMT initiative supports, trains, and partners with beekeepers across the country in the production and marketing of high quality honey that is available seasonally across the country.   To learn more about this venture please read Bring on The Bees.
