New Course Announcement: IPOL 8541 Research Methods for Development Practice

The MPA program is happy to announce a new course that equips students with tools for development project design and evaluation. The tools will include surveys, interviews (key informant and data generation types), focus groups, use of secondary sources (archival data) for program design and evaluation, direct observation, and comparative case studies. Emphasis will be on both the consumer role (accurately interpreting and reporting on studies using data generated by these tools) as well as actually using the tools.

The course is very much based on four types of learning: instructor to instructor (Guest instructors, experts), instructor to student, student to instructor, and student to student. Team projects dominate the approach to this course. Learning the content is based on reading, electronic and expert sources.

The syllabus for the course is posted on the GSIPM Front Desk Moodle Site, the Moodle site for this course, and mailed to all who have registered. We invite you to register today!

NOTE: The first class will be held on Tuesday, September 4th, as the instructor will be on a UN assignment the first week of class.
