GSIPM Colloquium Presents: Dr. Peter H. Gleick
When: Wednesday, April 24, 6:00 – 8:30PM
Where: McGowan 100
Lecture Topic: Environment and Security
This session with Peter Gleick, President and Co-Founder of the Pacific Institue, examines the relationship between environmental change and security, focusing in particular on the effects of climate change on fragile states and the least developed countries. Heightened natural disasters, extreme weather, rising sea levels, and other aspects of climate change may contribute to weakened economies and increased poverty. Insufficient state capacity to deal with climate change may also contribute to weakened governance, instability, and loss of state legitimacy. The session will also explore key environment and security challenges for U.S. and international policymakers.
