Who is Reza Aslan?

During her segment titled “Spirited Debate” Fox News correspondent Lauren Green asked a series of questions to Reza Aslan regarding his newest book Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth. Over the course of this almost 10 minute long interview, Aslan was forced to defend his position as a subject-matter expert on world religions along with his Ph.D in religion.

“To be clear, I am a scholar of religions with four degrees, including one in the New Testament, and fluency in biblical Greek, who has been studying the origins of Christianity for two decades, who also just happens to be a Muslim.”

…..”It’s my job as an academic. I am a professor of religion, including the New Testament. That’s what I do for a living, actually.”


Reza is also the founder of Aslan Media, a not-for-profit media company focused on “breaking from the mainstream media’s stifling grasp [on issues in the Greater Middle East], and once again reclaiming pluralism in discourse”. Reza Aslan has become both a leader and innovator in the realm of youth engagement with social media, and has recently taught an executive education workshop at the Monterey Institute of International Studies on the subject.
