Sarah Schwid

Master of Public Administration, 2012

January Term Practicum: Team El Salvador – Bajo Lempa, Usulutan, El Salvador (2011, 2012)

Sarah is a native Californian, but was raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She received her B.A. in International Relations from Drake University in 2009.   After graduation and before beginning the Master of Public Administration program at MIIS, Sarah spent a year working for Iowa Legal Aid in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she frequently worked with the area’s Latin American community.  This position as well as her study abroad experience in Buenos Aires, Argentina during her undergraduate studies led her to become interested in development and non-profit management in Latin America with specific interests in human rights and migration/immigration issues.  Since coming to MIIS, Sarah has become interested in community development and capacity building.

Sarah participated in Team El Salvador in January 2011 as a team member and will participate as a team leader in January 2012.  During her time in El Salvador, Sarah and her team created a 10-year strategic plan for community-based eco-tourism development in the Bajo Lempa region.  She is looking forward to returning to El Salvador to continue working with this and possibly other projects.
