Laura Doppelt

Master of Arts in International Policy Studies

DPMI Plus Assignment: Alzheimer’s Association –  Monterey, CABorn and raised in Oregon, Laura’s family always encouraged her to seek her fortune in distant locales with frequent returns to the Pacific Northwest.  Taking the Pacific Northwest specification to heart, she earned her Bachelor’s in politics and French from Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA before making a semi-permanent move across the pond.  After a year and a half in Alsace, France and two years in Vienna, Austria, the European migration authority politely reminded Laura of the limited terms of her work visa, wherein she became inspired to come to the Monterey Institute of International Studies to study development with a particular eye toward migration policy.

At MIIS, the interaction between migration and public health caught Laura’s attention throughout her class work.  Once again keeping proximity to the Pacific Northwest in mind, Laura seized the amazing opportunity to work on advocacy and development for an organization that fearlessly tends to the public health needs of the vulnerable and underrepresented elderly population—the Alzheimer’s Association.  After over a year with the Association that included her DPMI+ internship, Laura is now in search of the opportunity to continue work in the migration/public health field, though she would be pleased to employ her new master’s degree skills in a professional policy environment of many capacities.
