CUBA PILOT PROGRAM

Amelia sitting on El Malecón (“breakwater”) de La Habana, Cuba, initially constructed by the US government during US military rule.

The MIIS IPL trip to Cuba was the most intellectually humbling experience of my life. This trip involved packed days with distinguished speakers and guided tours of notable museums and sites in Havana. Despite the full schedule, we still made time to meet local Cubans and have some fun to ourselves. This trip also provided a lot of great opportunities to practice my Spanish! I would recommend the Havana trip to any student who is curious about Cuban culture and Cuba-US relations. This trip isn’t about merely having fun in the city – it’s about deep reflection on questions of equality and freedom, capitalism and market failures, national narratives, and more.
