Throughout this IEM Practicum experience, I have thoroughly enjoyed developing and refining my personal, academic, intercultural, and professional skills that I began acquiring back in Fall 2018 at MIIS. I feel that since I started this position, I have learned so much about myself uncovering my weaknesses and exploiting my strengths. Originally, when I first came to MIIS, I thought that I wanted to be student-facing as it would’ve allowed me to be in a dynamic environment where I would be able to change, evolve, and improve with each student I came in contact with. Throughout this experience, being in a client-facing role, I’ve realized that although my original goal was to be student-facing, I feel that my trajectory has changed, not my original sentiments and motivations. This position is extremely dynamic and has allowed me to change, evolve, and improve with every client that I’ve come in contact with. If I had to give future students any tips, they would be to never stop being curious; curiosity fuels motivation which fuels action. So long as you are curious, curious about your company, curious about your colleagues, curious about different sectors in the field etc, you will always be moving in the forward direction – it may not be the right direction, but you’ll definitely be moving forward. As you move forward, you will figure out more about yourself, your abilities, and your passions; allow that information, those abilities and those passions to propel you as you will never stop learning. I am so grateful to have had this practicum experience and I know this is only the start of what should be an exciting professional life ahead.
