Raymond Wang, NPTS ’18

Carnegie-Tsinghua Centre for Global Policy
June – August 2017

My summer internship at Carnegie-Tsinghua in Beijing was a great experience, as this was the first time I’ve spent a substantial amount of time in Mainland China. Apart from improving my technical Chinese vocabulary in nonproliferation, I experienced first-hand the peculiarities of the think-tank world in China, operating in a grey area of censorship and relative openness.

There was a great mix of locals and foreigners within the office, which led to some really constructive discussions over topical issues such as the DPRK missile tests that happened over the summer. Overall, I am extremely grateful for this opportunity, and look forward to working with my new friends and colleagues in the future.
