Rebecca Richey, IEM ’17

Performing Arts Abroad

Intern, Summer 2017

My internship at PAA was better than I could have asked for! The office environment valued the individual and promoted relationship building within the staff. I was able to connect with many people with a wide variety of positions and skill sets while practicing my own networking skills. I highly recommend PAA or any other company at the Global Educators office to any IEM student seeking practicum.

Regarding the re-entry deliverable, I was able to conduct 3 re-entry interviews on my own before I began to make changes to the questionnaire. This gave me the opportunity to see how the original questionnaire functioned in practice. Going forward, I now have the confidence to speak to students returning from their program abroad while asking for information about the program useful to PAA. This project gave me an introduction to assessing for intercultural competence without using a commercial tool. If at some point I work for another small-staff run company like PAA with a limited budget, assessment tools developed internally may be necessary if the company seeks to measure learning outcomes such as intercultural competence. This project also gave me an introduction to goal setting.
