Intrax

KatieCropOriginalAs Student Advisor at Intrax, my responsibilities are to:

1) coordinate student homestay and accommodations to ensure consistent, high quality cultural exchange experiences for Intrax Students, 2) coordinate and lead general student services efforts in the center to ensure overall student satisfaction 3) coordinate the WEST program and 4) assist with front desk sales and local marketing efforts to meet local student recruitment goals

1) I keep a database of current host families that I kept from the previous student advisor, and am in charge of conducting annual visits and performance reviews for the families. I also receive applications for potential families, visit and evaluate homes of potential families, and orient them to prepare them to accept Intrax students. I also visit residence clubs and seek out potential partnerships to provide another housing option for students who prefer not to live with host families.

I receive student requests for housing daily, and match them with a family or residence club based on student and family preferences, and on the availability of the family or residence club. I also provide support for students with housing problems, and assist students in extending, shortening, or changing their housing as needed.

2) I work with one other student advisor at the Intrax San Francisco Center, and the two of us collaborate to plan a monthly activity calendar, lead student activities, and promote activities as a marketing strategy for the center.

Some activities I have led include: visit to Google and the Silicon Valley, Giants baseball games, language exchange nights, cultural nights, and museum tours.

3) Every 5 months, a new round of WEST students arrives at Intrax. There are usually about 25 to 30 students per group, and the program is designed by the government of South Korea to have students attend 5 months of language courses in preparation for 6-12 month internships in the United States. As WEST coordinator, I welcome the students to the center, meet with them on a monthly basis to provide support and counseling, advise them on resume and cover letter building, and on interview best practices. I work with the internship placement team at Intrax Headquarters, who finds internship opportunities for the program participants during their final month at the language center.

4) Our center has a program consultant in charge of marketing and student recruitment, however I am also trained in student recruitment. Perspective students may walk into the center at any time, and if our program consultant is occupied, it is my responsibility to give the prospective student a tour of the school, explain how the classes work, and provide a price quote.
