TES provides a unique, professional opportunity for MIIS students to develop and apply practical skills and enhance language proficiency and multicultural competency in a dynamic international setting.

Team Leaders will cultivate a variety of professional skills while gaining real world experience.  The ideal candidate has a passion for international development, strong leadership skills, and a willingness to facilitate and manage a variety of program elements, including communication and outreach, program development, fundraising, updating and developing website content and social media sites, event scheduling and management, meeting planning and travel logistics and community engagement.

 TES leadership is open to all MIIS students, from all departments and fields of study!   

Description of Responsibilities:

  • Communication and outreach: Work closely with TES Faculty Director to assist in managing relationships with all partners, including La Coordinadora-Asociación Mangle, in-country program coordinators, MIIS Deans and Faculty, and EcoViva staff. Includes meeting with, making presentations to and communicating regularly with the student body, faculty/staff, and Salvadoran liaisons.
  • Program development:  Working directly with in-country staff to plan, develop, implement, manage and evaluate project work in coordination with TES Faculty Director.
  • Fundraising and Marketing:  Includes developing and expanding fundraising strategies to sustain Team El Salvador activities, and creating and distributing marketing materials and communication.
  •  Logistics and travel: Help plan trips and excursions, assist in organizing meetings and trainings, reserving locations, and research cost-effective flights and prices for team activities.
  • Updating and developing website content and social media sites:  Maintain TES communication channels including the TES Blog, Twitter and Facebook accounts; Archive and maintain TES documents in Google docs and management of electronic applications. Work with Graduate Assistant as needed.
  •  Recruitment and Community engagement:  Actively promote and recruit TES 8 participants (January 2014) as well as Summer Internship, DPMI Plus, and IPS placement opportunities. Develop platforms to engage community and assist with strategic partnerships to strengthen TES project work

Ideal Candidates will: 

  • Speak, write and read Spanish at a high 300-400 level
  • Understand the mission and goals of Team El Salvador and the history and culture of the Salvadoran partner communities
  • Have strong communication and organizational skills
  • Have experience living and working in rural communities of Latin America (or other developing countries)
  • Have a clear understanding of the unpredictable nature of development work
  • Be personable, dynamic, patient, flexible and adaptable to changing program and project demands
  • Have experience with fundraising
  • Develop and deliver compelling presentations to MIIS faculty, prospective team members, etc.
