Team Peru Summer 2010 Updates

February 24, 2010

The process of planning and organizing the summer 2010 projects is in full swing.  The January trip proved to be extremely beneficial, and we were fortunate to meet with several people and organizations that will assist us in the agriculture and health projects.

We have established three primary partners to complete the greenhouse projects.  They are: the Ministry of Agriculture in Calca, the Institute for Alternative Agriculture in Cusco, and Educa, an educational organization based in Lima.  They will assist us by serving as community liaisons, providing technical expertise, and establishing an agriculture and health related curriculum to be implemented in the community schools.

For the health projects, our team will work with several organizations including:  Clinica Kausay Wasi in Coya, Desea Peru, Pro Peru, and the office of the Director of Community Health in Cusco.  The health project will be comprised of a needs-assessment in several communities and a rural health training program.

We will continue to update the blog and look forward to seeing you at our “Me, You, and Peru” event on March 12.  If you would like to be more involved in the projects or events here in Monterey, please let us know!

Mission

Our mission is to provide and implement sustainable programs and projects in collaboration with the indigenous people of the Sacred Valley of Perú in an effort to improve their lives and reduce poverty in a culturally sensitive and appropriate manner. Furthermore, we work to support local NGOs with whom we have shared values using the skills and tools we possess.
