Immersive Education: From the Field to the Classroom

September 12, 2011

This weekend the MIIS students participating in Alfredo Ortiz’ Systems Thinking Workshop will be using the Aladesa Project, ie. the relationship between Team Peru and the Andean Alliance, as a case study.  To be more specific, they will be examining what a formal relationship between the Andean Alliance and the MPA program would like.  Aaron and I have been working closely with Alfredo Ortiz, along with workshop participants and Team Peru leaders Kat Gordon and Danny Gallant over the past few weeks to prepare for this weekend, and it sounds like its going great.

Also, many of the students participating this weekend have worked closely with Aaron and I in the past as members of Team Peru, so we are feeling really confident that the class is going to be meaningful and productive.  Using Team Peru as a case study is a perfect example of the value-added, immersive component to the Aladesa Project.  We can’t wait to show the deliverables from this weekend to the MPA faculty and work out a formal agreement to incorporate Team Peru and the Aladesa Project into the MPA program for years to come.

As Aaron and I continue to remain in constant communication with Team Peru members at the Monterey Institute this Fall, stay posted to hear more about how students will be incorporating Team Peru into their classroom curriculum. ~Adam
