Sieun Lee, Assistant Professor (이시은 교수님)

Professor Lee started her career as a Korean-English interpreter and translator in 1991 when she earned an MA from the Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Korea. In the same year, she started teaching at Hanyang Women’s College, where she found her passion for helping students build language skills. While maintaining a busy schedule as a freelance interpreter and translator working for government and industry clients, she has continued to teach classes to share her knowledge and skills with her students.

In 2007, Professor Lee relocated to the U.S. with her family and studied as an Advanced Entry student at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies for an MA in Translation; three years later, in 2010, she joined the Institute faculty. Becoming a student once again in the middle of her mature career was an enlightening experience for her as an educator. Thanks to this experience, Professor Lee is proud to be a teacher who better understands students’ expectations and strives to approach teaching from their perspectives.

Aside from Translation and Interpretation degrees, she also holds an MS in Instructional Science and Technology from California State University at Monterey Bay. She makes use of many latest technologies in her classroom to make learning more creative and engaging.
