Acted as teaching assistant to the Intro to CAT (Computer Assisted Translation) course. Included participating in labs as support for the students, grading assignments, and being available for office hours.

Associate Localization (Japanese/English) Specialist – Redmond, WA, USA

Nintendo of America

June 2018 – August 2018

Summer contract worker through Aerotek working in the Language Services Department.

Translated Japanese to English, including technical product specifications for hardware/software, Wiki content, general and technical emails, marketing documents, and business correspondence. Proofread translated work for accuracy and quality.

Utilized CAT tool and termbase management software, and took part in roundtable discussions to provide feedback and increase overall efficiency together with the team at Nintendo.

The Association of Japan Exchange and Teaching (AJET)

July 2015 – August 2017

Directly interviewed, hired, and managed a team of two dozen people in the online news industry, with a focus on news from and about Japan at a grassroots level. In addition, I worked hand-in-hand with the other 14 appointed positions of the AJET National Council in creating a support network and resources for the international community in Japan. With this also came the title of Head Editor of AJET CONNECT Magazine, a volunteer-run online magazine for and by expatriates living in Japan. I began as Section Editor for Entertainment at AJET CONNECT Magazine before taking responsibilities as Assistant Head Editor, and then was appointed to Head Editor.

Japan Exchange and Teaching Program(me) (JET)

March 2015 – August 2017

Taught English in the Japanese classroom, including kindergarten, elementary, and junior high school. The JET Program focuses on a grassroots level, and throughout my workweek, I visited schools in small towns and participated in extracurricular activities and volunteer work to better connect with my community. Duties included creating and executing lesson plans, providing a positive cultural bridge, and preparing the students for a more connected, internationally focused world.

English as a Second Language Teaching Assistant – Nagoya, Japan

September 2012 – February 2013

Served as one of two teaching assistants helping Japanese native speakers learn English through everyday conversation. Duties included creating lesson plans, giving lectures on both language and culture differences, leading discussions, drawing on real-world experiences to further learning, facilitating group work, critiquing projects and speeches, organizing guest speakers and refining pronunciation. Students were preparing for long-term and short-term study abroad in America and Australia.
