About Me

Welcome to my portfolio!

As you can see from the name of my website, my name is Vanessa Curless Zambra, and I am a recent M.A. graduate in Spanish <> English Translation from Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. I have a passion for communication, be that through the visual and performing arts or through breaking down language barriers. Helping humans understand other humans is what I love about the world of translation, and making that communication culturally appropriate and visually appealing is what I love about the world of localization. I’ve had the privilege of helping non-governmental organizations translate their websites as well as beautify them, and I hope to continue to do that for many other companies throughout my career.

My passion for communication and languages started during my first couple of mission trips, both of which were to the Dominican Republic, while I was in high school. I loved the challenge of building relationships despite linguistic and cultural differences as well as helping my fellow Americans communicate with our Dominican hosts with my limited, second-year, high-school Spanish. Now that I have been studying Spanish for twelve years and have been able to travel and volunteer abroad in many different Spanish-speaking countries, my love for fostering mutual understanding between my fellow humans has grown into a passion that I know will stay with me for the rest of my life.
