EAST ASIA PRACTICUM (CHINA & JAPAN)

Conversations in a Japanese Tea Garden

The East Asia Practicum was an academically and socially enlightening journey. From fascinating meetings with top government officials and scholars, to delicious culinary experiences in hole-in-the-wall restaurants I have never had such a stimulating week in my life.
If I had to chose my favorite from the multitude of fulfilling meetings, it would have to be the trip to METI (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry) in Tokyo. The Principal Deputy Director of the Multilateral Trade System Department was able to answer questions directly relevant to my Trade Negotiation Simulation class, as well as speaking to Japan’s dealings with the EU and US to attempt reform of the World Trade Organization.
