Location Calca, Cusco, Peru

Dates February 2017 – June 2017

 Summary of your experience:

Before coming to MIIS, I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the northern coast of Peru from 2012 to 2014. My experience and love for Peru and its culture motivated me to participate in the 2016-2017 Peru Wraparound course and, the last J-Term and complete my final practicum with The Andean Alliance for Sustainable Development (AASD) this past semester. I have been able to work in a completely different part of the country than I had spent my Peace Corps service. I believe Peru is much more diverse than people realize and the time I have spent in the Andes has allowed me to develop an even deeper affection for the country that has become my second home.

These past few months, I have worked as a Program Development Consultant for the AASD assisting in the creation of a proposal for a new program, researched different funding opportunities, and supported current project implementation. Immediately upon my arrival, I was provided opportunities to put what I had learned at MIIS into practice. In addition to the work and deliverables I had agreed to with both my advisor and the AASD, I was motivated to create other documents and facilitate activities in support of the organization’s operational development and formalization. Throughout my work with the AASD, it has been encouraging and inspiring to see what MIIS alumni have accomplished and how they have made the most of their graduate school experiences. I am excited to see how I can bring the experience I have gained working with the AASD to my next professional experience.
