College Info Session in Career Exploration Course

Each spring session we offer the Career Exploration content-based course for students at all levels, splitting the group into higher and lower level courses. The goal of these courses is to give students an opportunity to explore their own academic and career goals beyond the ESL program. Students discover the requirements of applying to universities by writing resumes and personal statements.

As part of this process, two local institutions, the Monterey Peninsula College and The Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, sent their admissions representatives to talk to our students. Each representative discussed the requirements for applying to their respective institution, described what college life was like on each campus, and answered any questions the students had. This was an excellent opportunity and it gave the students a deeper understanding of the application and acceptance process.

As the course wraps up, the students will finalize their resume and personal statement. The students will bring these final products to a networking event on the last day of class, which will be attended by people from outside the program. This networking event will provide students with an opportunity to share these final products and talk about their goals to others with confidence.
