Learning about Translation Management System is a process that helps me grow as an individual professional. As there are many different TMSs available in the market, telling the differences among them and being able to select the suitable TMSs for a specific type of company is an important ability to develop as a localization professional. I am not saying that I know all TMSs and knows exactly which ones are the best for which company, and yet I have made progress in analytical skills on discovering features and function of these software.

In this course, we spent 5 weeks exploring features on SDL WorldServer, and we did a group project from scratch using SDL WorldServer; 2 weeks on LingoTek TMS; 4 weeks of guest lecture: NetApp, Dr. Alan Melby, Iris Orriss from Facebook and Globalink team from Transperfect. It is a process of learning by doing, as well as getting in touch with the best practices directly with experts in this industry. I have also developed the skills of making infographics to demonstrate my knowledge on localization topics, and in this portfolio you will have access to the products of my learning outcome.

In this group project, our group created a “company” and designed a project from scratch. We selected the content and format of deliverables, created the proposal, and utilized SDL WorldServer for the whole process, to get a taste of real-life project and explored this software at a deeper level. Here are the documents involved in this project including our valuable lessons learned.
